Formation of mount vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius was formed when the tectonic plates of the Eurasian and African plates collided around twenty-five-thousand years ago.
The heat which was produced turned the rock into magma. It increased highly in pressure breaking through the grounds surface, forming a new volcano which is now known as Mount Vesuvius.
One of the plates was pushed beneath the other, pushing it deeper into the Earth. The crust heated up so much that it formed magma. Magma is much less dense that the solid hard rock surrounding it, causing it to be pushed upwards and through the earths surface, producing the volcano.
Such volcanoes such as Mount Vesuvius, Mount St. Helens and Krakatoa are all famous explosive subduction zone volcanoes.

The oldest known rock from the volcano is around three-hundred thousand years old. It was found in a well, which was built near the volcano. It was most likely part of the Somma volcano. When Somma collapsed around 17 000 years ago, Vesuvius later began to form. It was collected from a well drilled near the volcano and was probably part of the Somma volcano. After Somma collapsed about 17,000 years.
